Expository Essay

What is greed?

People always show a feeling of wanting everything their way, as to wanting something. Like everything else there are always limits to things. That is where greed comes in, it is wanting something over the limits. Greed has two meanings in the dictionary. “First it is the excessive desire to acquire or posses more than one needs or deserves.” Second, “ it is the insatiable desire for wealth.” (http://www.audioenglish.org/dictionary/greed.htm) Greed; five letters that can mean a whole world.
Greed is a desire of wanting more than what you need. In the popular children's story "Dicken's A Christmas Carol" it is shown that greed is a bad thing. Also that being greedy is unkind. Greed can be seen in many aspects not only money. It’s given more importance when it’s about money, because it has more consequences. Since it is mostly seen that greed is a problem that involves the desire of wanting money, each day more people become part of this problem.
Even if it is only one person or a group of people it still counts as greed. Companies and individuals put their desire for money and possessions ahead of the needs of others. They care more about themselves and getting what they want forgetting what surrounds them. For example dishonest banks give mortgages to people that clearly can't afford to make money. For doing this people lose their homes because foreclosure.

Greed is basically wanting something over everything and not caring how and who it can affect. This behavior is going to be presented in humanity no matter what, there are always going to be greedy people. It is a never ending cycle that can be reduced."Greed is a bottomless pit which exhaust the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction", Enrich Fronm.
